About Me

My Approach

First, I am so glad you found your way here, the thought of therapy can be daunting. I hope that I can put you at ease with the process knowing we are in this together.

-

My goal in working with you is to help you find your wellbeing through a holistic approach (and some humor). I believe it is equally important to explore where you’ve been, ground ourselves in where you are and look at where you would like to go mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

-

My therapeutic style uses an integration of cognitive behavior, relational, attachment work and somatic therapy (throw in some laughs for good measure).  From our first meeting, I will focus on cultivating safety and trust in our therapeutic relationship.  I will show up with compassion and provide direct communication, helping uncover how events, memories, family values, thoughts, and feelings shape your current relationship dynamics, possible trauma responses, ways of moving through life, and perceptions of the world.

-

For couples we will look at conflict styles, attachment, boundaries and communication. Along the journey, we will identify behaviors that have formed which are no longer beneficial to the relationship. We will focus on building up your strengths and coping skills for

About Sophora Acheson, LMFT, Therapist in Pinole, CA.

My Background

I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Chapman University in 2013.  My educational focus was in trauma and sex therapy. My work with clients and my educational background brings together a better understanding of life experiences by looking at them though the lenses of past traumas, sexuality, somatic experiences, as well as, our attachment styles and behavior.

-

My clinical journey began with a focus on supporting women and children who had endured interpersonal violence and trauma. Following this, I counseled at an agency specializing in assisting veterans with PTSD and adults with a history of incarceration, facing reintegration challenges. During my years in private practice, I concentrated on various areas including:

  • Couples navigating marriage and intimacy issues
  • Individuals grappling with life transitions.
  • Individuals with depression, anxiety, anger, and fear.
  • Those with high-stress jobs, including business owners and executives making high-risk decisions
  • Couples and individuals in non-traditional relationships and lifestyles, providing tailored support to address their unique dynamics.

My goal is to offer compassionate guidance to individuals and couples as they navigate through past traumas, current challenges, and the complexities of life.

You deserve to have confidence and joy in yourself and your relationships. I can help you get there.
